Decent result

I've been very bad and have failed to update my blog since last week! Never mind - Friday's weigh in saw a good result, a further 2 lb lost. What a result! This week it is looking less likely that I will lose as much weight though. I had an amazing first Mother's Day and was taken out to a great pub for a three course lunch. Of course, as the courses were "all in" the final price, I just had to have a starter and desert too! The puddings were out of this world! Other than that I've been pretty damn good, with the exception of a bar meal last night - baked sole with prawns and (tut tut) a creamy sauce. Hardly the most sinful food though. Well I sneakily weighed myself this morning and I have so far this week lost 1 lb. I suppose I should be pleased, but was hoping for more. However, my weigh in day is not til tomorrow so there is still time. I guess I was hoping for more loss because I have been walking the dogs twice a day, and have not had an alcoholic drink since Saturday (very impressive for me!). Ah well, tomorrow will tell.

Good and Bad

Oh dear, the weekend is always what ruins it for me. That's right - blame the weekend. Well I did good things and I did bad things. I did two 2 hour hill walks, but I also had a curry night on Saturday night (with friends round) at which Matt and I got a bit carried away and made 4 different curries (as well as poppodums and chutneys etc.) Well, I did say I like food! So what did I do? Eat two portions of EVERYTHING, including pudding. HOW embarassing for a start - I managed to diffuse some of the embarassment with my friends on the phone the next day. But terrible for the diet. Hence the second hill walk, which I did on the Sunday. Unfortunately Laura took a dislike to the backpack half way up, and cried for most of the walk thereafter. She also lost her best and warmest hat halfway back down. I weighed myself this morning and I am no lighter than I was on Friday (no heavier either) which is so disheartening after all that walking. I haven't managed to walk the dogs again since then though due to a nasty cold complete with very sore throat (especially when I swallow - ouch!). So it's not looking good for Friday!

On the plus side though I have managed to keep doing my toning exercises in the morning. And I have just made a promise to a Handbag friend that I will chum her in a training programme to start running - yikes, I must be mad! But it has occurred to me lately that running would be a good way to incorporate dog walking with cardio exercise. So once this cold is gone, running here we come!

Well the last few days have gone really well! I have eaten sensibly (with the exception of Tuesday night when I might have been guilty of scoffing two creme caramels... don't ask), and have lost 2 lb already, hurray! I have to say, the book I bought (Anthony Worrell Thomson GI Recipes) is fab, and I have been trying to stick to low GI food where possible, basically because it keeps you fuller for longer and hence prevents snacking. I've also been making a big effort to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, and have succeeded so far. This is good because it's been ensuring that if I snack, it's largely on fruit.

I invented a scrumptious smoothie the other day (even if I do say so myself!) with banana, peanut butter, yoghurt and milk. A handful of oats would make it even more wholesome. I quite like having a smoothie in the morning, so I'll keep going with that (and get myself some scrummy fruits and some oats to put in them). I also tend to have a slice of toast. I'm really enjoying my food, really enjoying doing the exercises in Laura's room in the morning (which thankfully seems to be becoming routine), really enjoying walking the dogs up the hill in the mornings. So can't complain about a thing! And have bought myself a magazine (shallow I know, but looking at the slim-tastic models helps to inspire me) so shall enjoy looking at that at tea break with low fat biscuits!

Have also started a thread on Handbag, lots of my chums have joined in and that is also really helpful and inspiring. I'm making Friday my weigh in day, and have weighed myself today - 2 lb lost since Tuesday, making me 12 stone 3 with a target weight of 10 stone 7 - so only 23 lb to go, yikes!

First post - first day

Well I have to say, this must be the most unoriginal blog ever - a blog all about losing weight and getting fit. But you see, I have a cunning plan to later turn this into an interesting and informative article, either for a magazine (any of them will do!)or a website such as Handbag.com. I'd like to start getting some experience at this kind of writing. So, I thought I would document my "journey" here, as often as I can be bothered to come on and type into this thing.

To cut to the quick, my baby is almost a year old now and I never got beyond a certain point with losing my pregnancy weight. I reckon I could lose up to 2 stone. That will take me to my preferred size 12, and all my lovely clothes that I can't wear at the moment. My Mum is also getting married in August, and I want that dress to have a lot of alterations!

Well my big idea is that I am not going to be on a "diet" - and this will be the selling point of my article too, I hope. Basically, I don't "do" diets, because I rapidly get bored and feel hard done by. I lose weight in the first instance, but then I just fall off the wagon! This time I plan things to go a little different. I will eat healthy, but nice food, and try not to drink too much. Oh, and do lots of exercise. That is it, basically. Surely, that is all one needs to do in order to lose weight, get fit and become more healthy? We will see........

I have a confession to make, however. I have just bought Anthony Worrel Thomson's book on GI recipes. I did this not to start doing the GI diet, but because the recipes look delicious, not something I have ever thought about diet recipes in the past. Dr Gillian McKeith - you are sacked! (Oh how happy my husband will be about that! He reckons she's clearly not into food, otherwise she wouldn't eat and promote that crap!).

Right - off to have my cuppa and low fat treat now. And then for some sit ups. Going well so far! Note to self - must post a "before" pic of myself here.
